Internet Marketing - Terrah Hatch

Hi, my name is Terrah Hatch. My first computer was a Timex Sinclair circa 1985. I had a little 10″ black and white TV and a tape recorder for backup. I would put in programs for silly games from a book that would take me hours to enter, only to find out that there was a syntax error and I had to troubleshoot the code to make it work right. I was about 9 years old.
Fast forward to high school, I really got interested in Computer Applications and my Dad started teaching me more about hardware. I started building and upgrading my own computers just out of high school and started getting on the internet.
I didn’t really start doing web sites until about 10 years ago when my best friend and I became heavily involved with a first person shooter game and decided to start a clan. We started out with a website on a subdomain of our ISP. I shutter to say that I used Front Page to build that site. It became very cumbersome to update with all the patches, maps, and files that we were putting out at the time and I began to search for something that was easier to update and looked better. That’s when I found Content Management Systems.
CMS’s were easy to install and update and they didn’t take a whole lot to make it look professional and would handle all the information that I needed to get out to our ever growing following. I learned how to tweak the html in the themes to suit my needs and even made a couple of really neat flash intros. I learned how to install the mods and configure things and started learning more and more about web development as a whole.
I knew nothing about internet marketing but I knew that I wanted to get our site out there and bring people to our site to join our clan and play our maps. So, I went to every gaming website that I could find and added myself to their links and registered at their forums and invited people to come and check us out. Within no time at all my site was a Page Rank 2, but I didn’t even know what page rank was or even that I had it.
Then my partner wanted to be #1 in Google for the term “DMC Maps” and my partner charged me with making it happen. I had no idea how to make it happen. I changed things on the website though until pretty soon I was there, #1 for “DMC Maps” and took note of what worked.
Fast Forward 5 more years, I met my husband Brandon (on the internet of course!). We both had dabbled with web design and internet marketing, but never expected to make it our main career. We were forced into it by necessity years ago and then realizing how much we really enjoyed it, he started to teach people the knowledge that he had acquired over the years. And the rest, as they say, is history!
